Haunting new ghost-types await in the latest Pokémon game
Pokémon Legends: Z-A will feature many familiar faces both recent and classic. We look back on the most anticipated and scariest ghost types to haunt the next game in the series.
5. Aegislash (Steel/Ghost)
Aegislash is confirmed to appear in Pokémon Legends: Z-A after it was spotted in the official reveal trailer at Pokémon Presents 2024.
Many trainers fear facing this Pokémon in battle. Its typing of steel and ghost give it a number of strong resistances and immunities.
Its unique ability, stance change, allows it to alternate stats between defence or attack/special attack. Aegislash is a Pokémon many dread to face.
4. Trevenant (Ghost/Grass)
Trevenant debuted in Pokémon X and Y, with Pokédex entries as frightening as its appearance.
Its entry in Pokémon X, and later in Pokémon Omega Ruby, documents how this Pokémon will “trap people who harm the forest, so they can never leave.”
Pokémon Sword would add extensive and horrifying details to how “people fear it due to a belief that it devours any who try to cut down trees in its forest.”
3. Gengar (Ghost/Poison)
Gengar has appeared in every mainline game since Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow on the Gameboy. Its track record shows it will potentially appear in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Pokémon Scarlet describes how “to steal the life of its target, it slips into the prey’s shadow and silently waits for an opportunity.”
The scariest entries lie with its Mega Evolution, a mechanic confirmed to make a return in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
Pokémon Ultra Sun warns how “it tries to take the lives of anyone and everyone. It will even try to curse the Trainer who is its master!”
2. Hisuian Zoroark (Normal/Ghost)
Hisuian Zoroark is a regional form introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It is one of the many Hisuian Pokémon that may potentially make a return in the next Legends game.
This Pokémon takes its form after dying from Hisui’s harsh conditions and being reborn through malice. Quite literally being too angry to die.
Hisuian Zoroark’s Pokémon Legends: Arceus Pokédex entry describes how “it looks like an embodiment of death” and how it will attack “with a bitter energy so intense, it lacerates Zoroark’s own body.”
1. Drifblim (Ghost/Flying)
A Pokémon with horrifying details underneath its innocent facade. It was featured in both Pokémon X and Y and Pokémon Legends’ Pokédex, making it a potential candidate to return.
Pokémon Sword’s Pokédex entry mentions how Drifblim is rumoured to be “a collection of souls burdened with regrets, silently drifting through the dusk.”
In addition, several entries across a number of games warn of how Drifblim will carry people “only to go missing.”
